About
Eric Seats:
Musician, songwriter, and producer Eric Seats is best known as an exceptionally talented drummer, having shared the stage with Patti LaBelle, Lalah Hathaway, Rahsaan Patterson, En Vogue, Deborah Cox, Kelly Price, Rhian Benson, Kenny Lattimore, Jon B, Montell Jordan, Doc Powell, Raphael Saadiq, DMX, Mase, and Missy Elliott.
The Indianapolis, Indiana native has been playing the drums since age 2, and was still in high school when he was chosen to play the Timpani with the L.A. Philharmonic for the ballet, “The Nutcracker.” Shortly thereafter, he added “music producer” to his resume, as a member of the Grammy-nominated production team, “Key Beats Incorporated,” whose credits include Aaliyah’s “Rock Da Boat”, 702’s “Where My Girls At?,” and Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women Pt. II.”
Eric is currently the drummer of the gospel group and 2006 Stellar Award winners, The Soul Seekers, who are recording their second album and awaiting their DVD release, “The Soul Seekers Live.” Other projects Eric’s working on include his self-titled solo debut and his musical “The Drummistra.” In addition to his work as an artist and producer, Eric continues to dedicate his time and talent to “Platinum Status,” an organization dedicated to providing creative outlets for at-risk youth, which has allowed him to teach music production seminars at various California colleges.
1.
What's the best thing about the instrument you play?
The best thing about the instrument I play to me would be the fact that I start the song, and end it. I set the tone, or mode on the songs most of the time. The drums, along with the bass, are the foundation. We make you move. It's needed most of the time!
2. Give us one or two of your most memorable moments on stage or in
the studio.
One very memorable moment on stage would be a show I played with Rahsaan Patterson, where I cut my finger on a cymbal on the very first song of the
show. That 1 song was connected to the next 4 songs which means I had no break to tend to this bleeding cut. Blood all over me, and the drums. Not a
good look!
