Davina

With the tremendously satisifying combination of beautifully raw vocals and heart wrenching songwriting that she hit us with on her now-classic debut nearly a decade ago, talented singer, songwriter, and producer Davina is back with another destined-to-be-classic album, “Return To Soul Vol. 1.”

Davina released her well-received debut album, “Best of Both Worlds,” on Loud Records in 1998, which included the hit “So Good” that appeared on the “Hoodlum” film soundtrack. In addition to being a talented singer and writer, the Harlem, New York native is also a successful producer, with credits for a long list of hip-hop and R&B artists, including Raekwon, Common, Mobb Deep, Coolio, Adriana Evans, Tyrese, and Marques Houston.

The new CD, “Return to Soul volume 1” is a hot soul collection which contains elements of R&B, Jazz, and Dance styles, and the topics range from self-empowerment to dealing with the death of a family member. As she did with her debut record, Davina wore the hat of producer on her new album, and the result is a style and sound that’s uniquely hers. Highlights include the powerful and poignant midtempo tunes, “Red Sky” and “Walk On Bye,” the head nodding grooves “Let’s Stay Together” and “Is It The Way” and the uptempo gem “Get Live.”

Davina spoke recently about her new music, her interesting life outside the music business, and the song she wrote for the late R&B artist, Aliyah.
